Ship of 50 guns, port 3/4 bow Long Caption: Scale: 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of a 50-gun small two-decker (circa 1695) built plank on frame in the Navy Board style. Model is decked and fully rigged and mounted on a modern wooden base. The model clearly illustrates the profuse amount of carved decoration, typical for the late 17th century. At this scale the model represent a ship measuring 132 feet along the gun deck by 36 feet in the beam and a tonnage of 700 burden. It carried 32-pounder guns on the gun deck, 12-pounders on the upper deck and 6-pounders on the quarterdeck. On the stern the royal arms and single monogram ‘WR’, representing William III, provides a date of between 1695 and 1702 (the single monogram being an indication of the death of Mary, his queen, in December 1694).
