Creamware jug Long Caption: Creamware jug, transfer-printed in black. On one side is a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), flanked by putti with trumpets and laurels, surmounted by a naval crown, all above a plan of the Battle of the Nile, 1798, with named ships. Inscribed above and below 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON', 'BATTLE of the NILE'. On the other side a circular view representing the Battle of Trafalgar, surmounted by wind cherubs, a trident, ensign and laurel branches, inscribed above 'The GLORIOUS 21th of October 1805'. Beneath the lip of the jug is a third transfer showing a military trophy. The portrait is taken from an engraving published by John Fairburn, London, November 6th 1798 (see PAD3761).
