A long-handled ice axe.Long Caption:A long-handled ice axe. It has a wooden handle of oval section. The steel head has a pick on one side and a horizontal blade on the other. The head is mounted by two brackets onto the haft. The lower end is capped with a metal band and has a spike protruding from the end.
There is a silver-plated label near the head, held in place by four pins, inscribed: 'Edith M.
