A starboard quarter view of a whaler, with 6 men on board, coming alongside another boat which has 7 men on board. 3 oars can be seen and the man sitting on the starboard side towards the stern of the boat in the centre is reaching across to the boat on the right. At the stern of the boat in the centre is a helmsman at the rudder which has yoke and ropes attached. A man is standing at the stern of a third boat in conversation with the two crews. In the background in the distance to the left a building can be seen, which is probably the RN Hospital Haslar.
