Service vessel; Horse transport Long Caption: Scale: 1:24? A full hull model of a horse transport barge of the type used during the Crimean War (1854-55) made entirely in wood with metal fittings and varnished a dark brown finish. The hull is flat-bottomed, double-ended with ramps at either end that can be lowered for loading horses. The ramps each have a tear-shaped aperture. Fittings include removable washstrakes, a number of ringbolts for tying ropes to when alongside a towing vessel and for securing the horses for safe transit, and three bottom boards.
