'Gwendoline', starboard

F2942-1

'Gwendoline', starboard Long Caption: Scale: 1:72. Full hull model of the smack 'Gwendoline' circa 1894. The model is decked, equipped and rigged, with the sails set. The name ‘Gwendoline’ is on the port and starboard bows and ‘Gwendoline Plymouth’ is on the stern. This model illustrates one of the many typical types of cargo vessels operating on the rivers and South West coastline of the UK. They had a fairly flat mid-section to the hull enabling them to ground safely at low water for loading and discharging a variety of cargo ranging from stone to lime.
