'Shamrock III', plating detail

F2910-2

'Shamrock III', plating detail Long Caption: Scale: 1:24. Design plating model of the racing yacht 'Shamrock III'. These models were used to 'joggle' the steel plates in relation to the frames before the construction of the full size vessel. Made from wood in the ‘bread and butter’ fashion, it is then coated with a highly finished and smooth paint to enable the drawing in ink of the complex shapes and curves in the three-dimensional form. As well as the plates themselves, it is also annotated with measurements and names of the key components.
