The Last Supper- dedication

PY6139-008

The Last Supper- dedication Long Caption: Engraving of the Last Supper by P.W. Tomkins after Jacopo da Pontormo. It depicts the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion (John 13:21). The print shows the moment Jesus announces that one of them would betray him. The individual reactions of the apostles are vividly portrayed; Saint John's position with Jesus' arm around his neck, and a dish in front of him can be seen as a prefiguration of his beheading and the presentation of his head on a silver dish.
