Sir William Henry Mahoney Christie Long Caption: This is a black and white print of an oil painting of Sir William Henry Mahoney Christie, Astronomer Royal 1881-1910. The original was painted in 1911 by Jacombe Hood, one year after Christie retired. The picture is a three quarter length portrait of Christie standing in front of the 28 inch telescope which was installed at the Observatory during his time as Astronomer Royal.
