Greenwich Hospital. The Painted Hall Long Caption: A view of the Painted Hall in Greenwich Hospital, from the Upper Hall where Nelson lay in state, and where his funeral carriage was subsequently displayed and shown until it was dismantled as 'decayed' in 1840 (for the figurehead of the carriage see FHD0093). By this time the Hall had become the 'National Gallery of Naval Art' (from 1824) and by the middle of the century it was also a growing Nelsonic shrine of pictures and memorabilia related to him. This print is no. 97 in the last part of Ackermann's well-known three-volume Microcosm of London (1808-1811).
