Passenger liner SS 'Normandie' (1932) Long Caption: Scale: 1:100. A full hull model of the transatlantic passenger liner SS 'Normandie' (1932), made entirely in wood with metal fittings and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted brown below the waterline, a broad red strip above, slack above the waterline and white bulwarks and upperworks. Hull details include anchors stowed at the port and starboard bows; intermittent portholes on six decks below the promenade deck; and four propellers. The turtle-decked foredeck has a pennant flying at the bow, integrated wave deflector and cargo hatch and crane. The superstructure placed amidships includes bridge, promenade deck, boat deck with twenty-eight boats stowed on davits and others stowed inside them, foremast and mainmast, and three funnels painted red with black tops. The decks aft are terraced with companion ways leading from one to another and there is a tricolour flying from the ensign staff at the stern. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden baseboard with bevelled edges. On port and starboard bows 'Normandie'. On stern 'Normandie Havre'. On two plaques attached to baseboard 'Turbo electric quadruple screw passenger liner 'Normandie' launched 29th. October. 1932 Maiden voyage 29th. May. 1935 Gross reg. tons 83.423 Length overall 1029ft. 5ins. Beam 119ft. 5ins.
