HMS 'Imperieuse' (1883) Long Caption: Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the armoured cruiser HMS 'Imperieuse' (1883), made entirely in wood and painted pink-brown below the waterline and black above. Hull details include a reinforced ram bow; two hawse holes; two large gun mounting insets, fore and aft; central gun placement; two intermittent rows of portholes; stern quarter galleries; rudder; and propeller shaft casings and mounting. Other fittings include forward gun, painted black; stump foremast and mainmast; two stump funnels, painted ochre; gun amidships; and what appear to be three circular turrets, painted off-white. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame with bevelled edge. Plaque missing from top left-hand corner of backboard.
