Sectional model Long Caption: Scale: Unknown. A working model of steering apparatus, together with a rudder head which has been mounted on a solid wooden block roughly shaped in the form of a stern. The wooden block has been painted a light brown colour with a grain applied on top and then the whole block has been edged in black paint. On the top face of the block are four iron spikes for locating a rectangular housing to cover the lower sheaves below the main wheel (this is now missing). The wheel itself comprises of a large four-spoked wheel cast in brass with a slightly smaller wooden wheel behind fitted with nine turned handles, of which only one survives. The drum of the wheel is rigged with rope, which runs through a pair of large angled sheaves at deck level, and around a large single sheave mounted horizontally to the top of the rudder head. There is a small white paper label which reads "Rec'd... Room, April 22nd? 1854" and a large paper label which reads "Olive Moore Heywood Street, Sneinton, Nottingham". There are also two smaller square paper labels on the forward face and the deck marked "11" and "16".
