Pivot and slide carriage Long Caption: Scale: Unknown. A model of a pivot and slide gun carriage made entirely in wood and metal and painted mostly black. The object is heavy in proportion to its size. The carriage bed consists of a solid rectangular piece of wood, the upper face reinforced by a longitudinal strip of metal, the front end of which is semi-circular and with a pivoting hole. The underside of the bed, together with the carriage, is painted green. Towards the front of the underside of the bed is a fixed three-sided axle, rectangular in section, with black-paintedbrass trucks at either end. These trucks are fixed to turn in an arc with its radius on the pivoting hole. The wooden carriage slides back and forth on the bed and can be secured by turning two bolts in the centre of the upper face of the carriage. The bolts have moveable turning bars. At the rear of the carriage are a pair of large turned wooden trucks. The front of the carriage has provision for fixing a gun. Inscribed on the model is "25/313" and "MA0599".
