Windlass model Long Caption: Scale: Unknown. Model of a double ratchet windlass made in mahogany and brass. The windlass has two pairs of ratchets, two located close to the centre and two at either end. There are six brass bands around the windlass and at the extreme ends there are two brass cogs. In section the windlass is octagonal and on each alternate face there are nine square holes for accommodating windlass bars. The windlass is supported at either end by wooden frames that are secured to a rectangular mahogany base board with a bevelled edge. The two ratchets close to the centre of the windlass have decorative brass hinges attached to two decorative vertical posts surmounted by a curved wooden lintel. A pair of rails are connected between the posts and the frames and are used for storing six belaying pins.
