A galjoot and other craft in light airs

PT2429

A galjoot and other craft in light airs Long Caption: A signed drawing by the Younger depicting a large galjoot on the right with a flute ahead of her: on the left is a small bezan-rigged boat, with two ships and several galjoots beyond. In this atmospheric drawing the sunlight on the sails of the ships is suggested with broad washes, but it is somewhat marred by the strengthening in pen and grey ink of the galjoot in the centre, probably by Charles Gore. This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Younger signed 'W.V.VJ'. It has been approximately dated by the watermark. The signature is probably much later.
