Portrait of the 'Holmes'?

PY1844

Portrait of the 'Holmes'? Long Caption: Viewed from astern, slightly on the starboard quarter, a portrait of a ship that is thought to be the 'Holmes', 24-gun fifth-rate, bought from Sir Robert Holmes 1671, made a fireship 1677, sold 1682. This drawing is made with freedom and accuracy but without the addition of any wash. The ship is shown high out of the water and without guns. It is possible that the drawing was made about the same time while the ship was laid up in ordinary.
