Portrait of the 'Reine' Long Caption: The ship is viewed from the starboard quarter. There is one gun in the quarter-gallery. On the tafferel there are the crowned arms of France and Navarre, three fleur-de-lis impaled with an escarbuncle, on a cloth powdered with lilies, supported by two angels seated with their wings outspread. It is carefully and accurately executed and has a few faint corrections. There is a similar drawing of the ‘Reine’ in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. This is one of seven drawings of French ships made probably in June or July 1673, when van de Velde visited the fleet refitting after the first battle of Schooneveld.
