'Fly' (1752) Long Caption: Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the sheer lines with inboard detail, and the longitudinal half-breadth for 'Fly' (1752), an 8-gun ketch-rigged Sloop, as first built at Portsmouth Dockyard (red ink), and as proposed (green ink) to convert her to a three-masted ship-rig at Deptford Dockyard. NMM, Progress Book, Volume 2, folio 516, states that 'Fly' was at Deptford Dockyard to be re-rigged between December 1752 and January 1753. The Progress Book records: "The Sloop not sailing so well as was expected Ad. Order 22 Nov'r 1752 to refit her at Deptford & to Mast & Rig her in proportion to the Yachts." The progress book also states that her draught [plan] was similar to the Monarch, a French prize, which may not have been taken into the Navy.
