Prize medal: Royal Geographical Society 1835 Long Caption: Royal Geographical Prize medal belonging to Captain George Back (1796-1878). Obverse: Head of King William IV (right). Legend: 'GVLIELMVS IIII D:G: BRITANNIARVM REX MDCCCXXX PATRONVS'. Reverse: Minerva (left) with a globe behind her and a sextant at her feet, holds a scroll in her left hand and a laurel wreath in her right. Legend: 'OB TERRAS RECLUSAS'. Exergue:'ROYAL GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY'. The medal is half glazed with a silver rim which hides the inscription on the edge.
