Globe x-ray

F7378

Globe x-ray Long Caption: Terrestrial table globe. Geographical details on the sphere include a note in Africa that reads: 'Conjectural source of the Rr. Zaire'. There are five labels in the south pole region including, for example, 'South Victoria Land', ENDERBY's LAND', and 'SOUTH SHETLAND'. A total of eight oceans are named. A bag of lead shot was originally fixed inside the globe to balance it but this is now detached. A similar copy of the 240 mm globe by Newton, dated 1817, has been identified. It has a slightly different inscription and a floating horizon is attached to the meridian ring.
