Medal commemorating the Society of Naval Architecture; obverse Long Caption: Medal commemorating the Society of Naval Architecture. Obverse: Britannia crowned, holding in her right extended hand a wreath, and in her left hand a scroll, standing on the sea shore; a battleship under sail (right), a galley and Noah's ark (left). Legend: 'FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF NAVAL ARCHITECTURE'. Exergue: 'INSTITUTED 1791'. Reverse: Inscription with a wreath of laurel tied with a bow. Inscription (in four lines): 'Presented to the Rev. Thos. Martyn, B . D. F . R . S . Reg . Pro . Bot . Cam . for his services 5th June 1792.' The Institution was founded at the request of Admiral Sir J. B. Warren, but only lasted five years.
