Mast Long Caption: A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-1848. Part of the upper part of a boat's mast with piece of rope attached. Found in the possession of the Inuit at Wilmot Bay, Adelaide Peninsula by the Schwatka Search Expedition 1878-1879. The mast is pine, fitted with an iron mast hoop with an eye. Lower down the mast has copper sheathing round it and a sheave inside with a piece of rope attached. There is a second sheave on the outside of the mast. Other Inuit told of finding an abandoned boat near Wilmot Bay following the sinking of a large ship off Grant Point.
