Clay pipe Long Caption: A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-1848. The bowl and part of the stem of a clay pipe found by the Franklin Search Expedition 1850-51 led by Captain Horatio Austin. A silver rim and glass cover has been added to the bowl to contain the tobacco. The whole is mounted on a rough wooden block with a plaque inscribed 'First traces of Franklin's Expedition found at Cape Riley 23rd Augt 1850'.
