Bottle

F6640

Bottle Long Caption: A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-1848. The domed bottom of a blue glass bottle. It has the moulded inscription 'POWELL ; CO BRISTOL'. It was probably found at Northern Cairn, Cape Felix on 3 July 1879 by the Schwatka Search Expedition 1878-1879. McClintock, Gilder and Schwatka all mention broken bottles at this site and also in the Inuit cache at Cape Maria Louisa. This fragment seems more likely to have come from a mineral water bottle.
