Badge Long Caption: Circular gilt lapel badge, the badge is decorated with a blue enamel surround. The front of the badge is decorated with a profile portrait surrounded by the inscription 'THE INSTITUTION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS 1847-1947'. There is a crescent shaped knob on the back of the badge, which is joined to a shank in order to secure the badge to a buttonhole.
