Hilt of Dutch sword Long Caption: Dutch sword. The hilt consists of a gilded brass decorated knuckle bow ending in a straight bud-shaped quillon. The knuckle bow, quillon and shell are cast as one piece. The upturned shell is decorated with leaves which surround crossed anchors below a crown. This was the pattern sword used by the Royal Netherlands Navy from 1824 to 1843 when it was replaced.
