Danish dirk Long Caption: Danish dirk, the hilt of the dirk consists of a straight, gilt brass cross-guard, which has an indentation on each side at the cross and ball finials. The pommel is made in the form of a turned, slightly domed knob. The gilt brass ferrule is decorated with two pairs of threads. Below the ferrule are two encircling bands. The dirk is of the general type introduced in the 1860's and still worn today in the Royal Danish Navy. The dirk used by the Royal Hellenic Navy was modelled on this type of dirk.
