Jug transfer-printed in black on one side with a view of HMS 'Agamemnon' at anchor and the other with the 'Great Eastern' under sail and steam Long Caption: Jug transfer-printed in black on one side with a view of HMS 'Agamemnon' at anchor and the other with the 'Great Eastern' under sail and steam. The prints are inscribed 'Agamemnon 91 guns' and 'The Great Eastern 'Leviathan'. The jug has a shaped lip with rope scrolling and acorns around the top of the jug, both inside and out, and rope decoration on the scroll handle. It commemorates the first transatlantic submarine telegraph cable. The 'Agamemnon', Lyon's flagship during the Crimean War, made the first unsuccesful attempt in 1858, and the cable was laid successfully by the 'Great Eastern' (originally built as Leviathan) in 1866.
