Presentation sword which belonged to Captain James Analby Legard Long Caption: Presentation sword, which belonged to Captain James Analby Legard (died 1869). Captain James Analby Legard (died 1869) was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1827 due to the part he played in the Battle of Navarino. He served aboard HMS 'Infernal' from March 1829 until September 1830 and as nothing distinguishing happened to this ship during this period, Legard's sympathetic term of office might have prompted this award. In 1844, having rendered some service to the Portuguese Government, he was awarded the Knight of the Order of the Tower and Sword. James Analby Legard was promoted to the rank of Captain on the retired list in 1856 and died in 1869.
