Reverse of Gunter quadrantLong Caption:This is a horary quadrant marked with Gunter scales and has a shadow square for surveying marked out in the top third of the instrument. It is signed 'A.O.S. fecit 1682' but the maker is unknown. Both sights on the right-hand side are intact but the plumb line and bob are missing. The quality of engraving suggests that this was made by an amateur. The instrument is made for the latitude of 52 degrees - 40' N which suggests it might have been made in Norwich, which lies close to this latitude.Credit line:National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, LondonObject:NAV1029Artist:unknownDate:1682Medium:brassSize:Overall: 110 x 154 x .5 mm
