Deck scene on the barque 'Suzanne' Long Caption: Everett trained at the Slade School of Art 1896-1898. Here his friends were Augustus John and William Orpen who both lodged at his mother's house, 21 Fitzroy Square, London. In May 1898 Everett signed on as an ordinary seaman on board the 'Iquique' for the first of his many voyages around the world. Thirty years later in 1928-1930 he sailed on the barque 'Suzanne' from Calais to Guadeloupe and Le Havre to Jamaica. This bold composition, less stylized than some of his works of the 1930s, was later made into an aquatint.
