Formerly called 'James Watt (1736-1819)'

Formerly called 'James Watt (1736-1819)' Long Caption: Comparison with engravings after William Beechey's portrait of James Watt in particular (original in Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery), but also portraits such as Carl Fredrik von Breda's of 1792 (National Portrait Gallery) makes it clear that the sitter in this portrait is definitely not James Watt. Furthermore, the painter is almost certainly not Beechey.
