BHC1836

A two-decker and a frigate running into the Thames off Gravesend Long Caption: On the left, a two-decker of about 60 guns is shown in stern view, flying the red ensign and pennant and about to drop anchor. She is surrounded on either side by small coastal craft and to the right of the picture a frigate also flies the red ensign. The several ships at anchor seen between them are Indiamen, for which Gravesend was the last embarkation and disembarkation point within the Thames estuary. Tilbury Fort is in the centre distance with Gravesend to the left.
