Attack on HMS 'Aurora' by pirates, 1812, end of the action Long Caption: In the early 19th century British ships were still vulnerable to surprise attacks by pirates, who used their knowledge of the sea and local conditions to full advantage. In 1812 HMS 'Aurora' was attacked by armed pirates. The scene is shown from a low viewpoint, with the smaller pirate ships being driven back. This painting forms a pair with BHC1084.
