A Zeeland ship and other Dutch vessels off Flushing

BHC0874

A Zeeland ship and other Dutch vessels off Flushing Long Caption: The oil painting was presented to the NMM as a pair with BHC0875. It shows various Dutch vessels off a Dutch harbour town to the right, which has been suggested to be Flushing. The overall style is obviously influenced by the Flemish 17th-century tradition, which can be seen in the liquid and ornamental rendering of the brushstrokes. The picture has been attributed to Jean-Baptiste Bonnecroy (1618-1676), who is otherwise associated with the genre of panoramic views.
